STONEPOOL POTTERY, located in Worthington, MA, is the ceramic studio and kiln of Mark Shapiro. The studio, originally built in 1990 with potters, Michael Kline and Sam Taylor, is now primarily a work space for Mark and an apprentice, currently Daniel Garretson, who is in his second year of the program. The Firing Partners show at Ferrin Gallery features the work of Mark, Daniel and the previous apprentices, Maya Machin and Michael McCarthy. They continue to work in the area and regularly return to fire the wood fueled kiln. In addition, the show features textiles by handweaver, Scott Norris who has assisted in nearly every wood firing at Stonepool Pottery.

Mark Shapiro is nationally known for his woodfired stoneware. His work is in numerous private and public collections including Currier Museum of Art, Manchester, NH, Mint Museum of Craft+Design, Charlotte NC, Newark Museum, Newark NJ, Racine Art Museum, Racine WI and the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian Institution, Washington DC. He is also a well known teacher, author and speaker on issues relevant to the contemporary studio pottery movement.

This is the third in the Firing Partners series of exhibitions that define a community of potters, artists, writers, photographers and members of a community who join together to fire a wood fueled kiln over a series of days.

The first took place in February 2008 and featured Mark Rowntree's kiln, nicknamed "The Hedgehog", located in Hillsdale, NY just over the Massachusetts border. Potters Ben Krupka and Daniel Bellow partnered to fire the anagama kiln with 500 pot. Their colleague, photographer, Jason Houston, created a related multimedia presentation on the firing process.

The second was held in May 2008 and featured Sam Taylor: Dogbar Pottery and included his colleagues, Hayne Bayless, Rob Logan, Tracey Logan, Michael McCarthy and Tom White. Howard Korn created a photo documentary on the 08 firings.
