FRESH: New Art, New Artists

Group Show of Works in All Media

May 9 - July 5, 2009

reception: Saturday, May 23rd from 4 - 6pm

Ferrin Gallery presents a group show of works in all media that provides a random survey of new works by gallery artists and introduces several artists new to the gallery.

In this year's survey show, FRESH: New Art, New Artists, the gallery introduces the work of several new artists and features a cross section of recently completed work by gallery artists. Presented "salon" style, the show offers the opportunity to see over 70 artworks, including sculpture, mixed media, photography, works on paper and painting, primarily completed in the first part of 2009.

Since moving from Lenox to Pittsfield, MA in 2007, Ferrin Gallery has produced a series of thematic group shows to introduce the work by various artists and offer an opportunity to artists to produce specific works using various themed formats. The late fall annual invitational SMALL WORKS, the recent WOMEN: Portrait + Figure and the now second annual, FRESH show each offers an opportunity to survey the creative output of a steadily developing arts community in Western Massachusetts alongside nationally known artists affiliated with the gallery.

A related project, taking place at the same time, is a show of photography by Mark Tomasi, one of the artists in FRESH, at the "Loo" Gallery @ Dream Away Lodge.

MUGS: Mark Tomasi

Loo Gallery, Dream Away Lodge, 1342 County Road, Becket, MA

Guest curated by Ferrin Gallery in conjunction with FRESH: New Art, New Artists

Exhibition runs May 9 - July 5.

In MUGS, Mark Tomasi, the noted graphic designer, photographer and man about town, catches local members of the "art mafia" at their recent roundup for nefarious crimes of passion.

Mark Tomasi, a Pittsfield resident, is active with Storefront Artist Project and well known as the originator of the bold graphic style logo and posters for SAP's shows and events. Using both his favored mediums - design and photography - and turning a Warhol like eye to his friends and colleagues - for MUGS, Tomasi has produced a series of prints documenting the growing community of creative artists and performers.

The Loo Gallery is an intimate space for quiet contemplation at the legendary Becket landmark restaurant, bar and lounge.
