Ferrin Gallery presents a solo exhibition of new works by Michael Zelehoski. Michael Zelehoski will give an artist talk on July 15th at 6:30 p.m. Zelehoski's recent work encompasses a large body of abstract and figurative compositions created from old pieces of good and furniture that have been worn and weathered by the passage of time. His selection of materials, then the composition and careful treatment of these surfaces, seeks to preserve their uniqueness. He often chooses utilitarian objects such as tables, chairs and boxes which he deconstructs, exploring their spatial dimensions as he cuts them into dozens of abstract fragments. The pieces are then reassembled two-dimensionally and then he uses carefully fitted pieces of wood to fill the negative spaces. The three-dimensional object becomes a two-dimensional parody of its former self. Deconstruction of the 3-D and realization of the 2-D is at the core of Zelehoski's first solo show with Ferrin Gallery In conjunction with his show at Ferrin Gallery, Zelehoski will also preset BOYS 'N GIRLS, a series of figural work in which human forms are carved into painted, wooden surfaces and treated with fire and wax to creat a striking, almost photographic quality @ The Loo Gallery, Dream Away Lodge, Becket, MA July 8 - August 9.
